Types of Energy Resources

There are many ways to obtain energy resources. The Earth is the primary source of energy resources. These resources could include wood and agricultural waste as well energy crops. Landfill gas is another resource that can be utilized. These resources are very varied and can need individual management. This can be solved by treating each resource individually.

Natural resources

Renewable resources are those that can be replenished. Nonrenewables, however, are those that can be replenished after they have been used up. Metals, for instance, cannot be replenished after their mined. As human populations continue to grow, they have greater demand for renewable resources. While fossil fuels have been used as energy sources since the late 1880s, renewable resources are only becoming available in increasing amounts.

Natural fuels

One of the oldest sources for energy is natural fuels. Coal was used for a long time as a source of energy, but it is now less popular, as renewable energy sources are available at much lower costs. Many countries are switching away from fossil fuels to more renewable sources.

Oil

Oil is a natural resource that can power many industrial processes. But oil has its limitations. The first is its limited supply. The oil supply in the world is rapidly decreasing and oil prices are rising. Its negative impact on the environment is another disadvantage. The oil extraction causes significant damage to marine life and pollutes the waters around the globe.

Hydroelectricity

Hydroelectricity provides a reliable and unlimited source of energy. It can also be combined with solar power or wind power. In addition, it is one of the most flexible forms of energy generation. It is very responsive and can be switched on/off in under two minutes. This makes it a great choice to balance production levels during the workday.

Bioenergy

Bioenergy, a renewable energy resource, can be used as a source of heat, electricity, and other energy. Around 2% global electricity generation was represented by the world's bioenergy capacities in 2016. They reached 110 gigawatts (GW). During the same time, annual capacity additions averaged approximately five to seven GW. Bioenergy has a low cost and is an excellent resource for meeting demand for renewable energy.

Nuclear energy

Nuclear energy is a renewable power source that can generate electricity while avoiding polluting. It is used to power space exploration as well as to sterilize medical devices, to supply potable drinking water through desalination, or to make radioisotopes that can be used in cancer treatment. It is also used to support clean air initiatives and combat climate change.
